Renovations
Bathroom With Peeling Walls Restored
The walls and ceiling above the tiles were stained by damp and peeling. The old fittings came out, and the surfaces were repaired and painted white.

Drag to compare
Step by step
1. Where we started

Above the tiles, damp had lifted the plaster and paint, and the old cistern had rusted.
2. Stripping back

The old fittings come out and anything loose is scraped off the wall, so the repair starts from a sound base.
3. Repairs and paint

The surfaces are smoothed and painted white. Only the holes for the new fittings remain.
4. The result

The tiles stayed, and above them the walls are now clean and bright.
Questions this job answers
Does an old bathroom always need a full renovation? Not always. If the tiles and pipes are sound, repairing the walls above the tiles and changing the fittings may be enough. With leaks, worn pipes or tiles coming loose, it needs a full one.Can new tiles go on top of the old ones?Sometimes, if the old ones are firmly stuck and flat. But the old pipes stay hidden underneath, and if some tiles are loose or sound hollow, they all have to come off.
