Repairs
Ceiling Repair Over Exposed Steel Bars
The ceiling plaster had fallen away and the steel bars were showing. The bars were protected, and the ceiling was built back up and painted.

Step by step
1. The damage

The plaster had fallen off, leaving the concrete and its steel bars exposed.
2. Protecting the bars

Every exposed bar gets a red protective coat so it does not keep rusting.
3. Building it back

The missing surface is built back up with repair mortar, which covers and seals in the bars.
4. Filling and smoothing

The surface is filled and smoothed so the repaired patch doesn't stand out from the rest of the ceiling.
5. The result

One even, clean ceiling with no trace of the damage.
Questions this job answers
A piece of plaster fell off the ceiling. What now?Keep the area underneath clear, as more plaster around it may be loose. Then find out why it fell, whether damp, a leak or rusting steel, before it is re-plastered and painted.A crack has opened in my ceiling and I can see rusty steel. Is it dangerous? It means the reinforcement is rusting, usually because of water, and shouldn't be left. Local damage is repaired: clean, protect the steel, rebuild with repair mortar. If it is spreading or on a beam, call an engineer.
