Step by step
1. The pilotis before

The ceiling of the pilotis, the open ground floor under the building, is the floor of the flat above. Without insulation, cold and heat from the open space pass straight into the home. The light fitting has been taken down and its wiring wrapped.
2. Covering up

Walls, openings, the air conditioning unit and the floor are covered in plastic sheeting, so the foam goes only where it should.
3. Spraying

Polyurethane foam is sprayed from below over the whole ceiling in one continuous layer. The light fitting point stays covered so the light can go back afterwards.
4. The surface

One continuous layer with no joints, which cuts down the heat lost through the floor of the home into the open space below.
5. Around the lights

Spotlights and wiring points are left free and clean.
6. The result

The whole pilotis ceiling is insulated, and the flat above now has a warmer floor in winter.
