Waterproofing Planters Beside a Pool

The old planters were emptied, the worn waterproofing came out, and their floors and sides got a new coating.

Waterproofing Planters Beside a Pool

Step by step

1. The empty planter

The planter floor with its old dark waterproofing

With the soil out, the old dark waterproofing on the floor came into view, worn and patchy.

2. Removing the old layer

Pieces of the old waterproofing piled in a corner

The old layer is stripped out, so the new one goes onto a sound base rather than something already coming loose.

3. Preparation

The planter floor cleaned and evened out

The floor is cleaned and evened out, along with the corner where it meets the sides.

4. The long planter

The long planter beside the house wall, emptied

The long planter beside the house wall is emptied and cleaned the same way.

5. The new coating

A grey waterproof coating on the floor and sides

The waterproof coating covers the floor and runs up the sides, so watering doesn't soak into the walls.

6. Around the manhole

White coating around a manhole with a grate

A manhole inside the planter is covered on every side too.

7. The drainage holes

The waterproofed planter, with its drainage holes left open

The drainage holes are left open, so water runs away instead of sitting in the soil.

8. The result

The waterproofed planters beside the pool

The planters are ready to be filled with soil and planted again.
