Step by step

1. The planter before

The planter full of plants and cut branches

The built-in planter on the terrace held soil and plants. Once the waterproofing underneath fails, water from watering seeps into the building.

2. Emptying it

The empty planter, with its old black walls

The plants and soil come out so the base can be seen. The old black coating is visible on the walls.

3. A clean base

The planter floor cleaned

The floor is cleared of soil and loose material, so the new layer bonds to a sound surface.

4. First layer

A wet grey layer on the floor

A first grey layer goes on to prepare the surface for the waterproofing.

5. Into the corners

The first layer reaching the walls

The layer runs right up to the foot of the walls, because leaks usually start at the corners.

6. White waterproofing

The planter coated white on the floor and walls

The white waterproofing covers the floor and goes up the walls, so the planter becomes a closed basin that keeps the water in.
