Step by step

1. Scaffolding and netting

The building covered in scaffolding and blue netting

Scaffolding goes up the full height, with safety netting so nothing falls below.

2. Damaged render

Crumbling render on the edge of the wall

Along the edges and corners the render had blown and was crumbling.

3. Scraping

A worker scraping loose material off the wall

Anything loose or hollow-sounding is scraped off until a sound surface is reached.

4. Filling

The wall with white patches of filler

The bare areas are filled so the wall is smooth again before painting.

5. Painting level by level

The painting moves from one scaffold level to the next, so the whole face gets an even finish.

6. The result

The side wall of the building with the scaffolding gone

With the scaffolding down, the side wall looks even and clean, with no cracks or patches showing.
