Repainting an Older Home in Soft Colours

Step by step

1. During the painting

A room with a stepladder and a grey-blue band along the bottom of the wall

The lower part of the walls was painted grey-blue, with a thin line separating it from the lighter colour above, as suits an older house.

2. The doors

A grey glazed double door next to a light wall

The grey wooden doors with their glass panes tie in with the band on the wall.

3. The bedroom

A bedroom with lilac walls and tall windows

In the bedroom the walls got a soft lilac that shows off the tall windows.

4. The kitchen

A kitchen with a two-tone wall and white cupboards

In the kitchen the wall is split into two tones, with the darker colour at the bottom, where it gets dirty more easily.

5. The staircase

An internal staircase with grey steps

The internal staircase has grey steps and light walls, in the same tones as the rest of the house.

6. The ceiling

A ceiling with a white decorative frame

On the ceiling, the old decorative frame is white and stands out from the colour around it.

7. The hallway

A hallway with doors and an old patterned tile floor

From room to room, the same few colours repeat and pull the whole house together.

8. The result

A study with light walls and a bookcase

A bright home that kept its character, with fresh paint in every room.
