Step by step

1. The roof before

The red metal roof with faded paint

The sheets had faded and the flashing where the roof meets the wall was worn.

2. The wall above the flashing

A broken spot in the wall above the flashing

Where the roof meets the wall, the render had opened up. Water finds its way under the roof through spots like this.

3. Crumbling foam

Old foam crumbling inside the joint

The old foam that filled the joint had broken down in the sun and left openings.

4. The gap at the parapet

A gap between the roof sheet and the parapet

There was an open gap between the sheet and the parapet, and the parapet had turned black with damp.

5. Cleaning

The channel along the parapet, cleaned out

The channel next to the parapet is cleared of dirt and debris so the new materials bond properly.

6. New foam

New foam filling the joint

The joint is filled with new foam, closing it along its whole length.

7. Sealing and screws

The joint sealed and the screws covered

A waterproof coating goes over the foam to protect it from the sun. Every screw is covered too, because water often gets in through the screw holes.

8. The result

The roof from above, with every screw covered

The joint at the parapet is closed and the screws are sealed across the whole roof.
