Sealing the Skylights on a Flat Roof

The bases of two skylights had broken up. The damaged material was removed and the bases were sealed with a white waterproof coating.

Sealing the Skylights on a Flat Roof

Step by step

1. The damage

A skylight with a broken base and debris around it

The skylight base had cracked and pieces of the old material had come loose. Water gets in easily at spots like this.

2. Breaking out

Loose material broken out around the base

Anything that had decayed around the base is broken out and removed, so we work on a sound surface.

3. First repair

The cleaned skylight base with its first white coat

The base is repaired and gets its first coat of waterproofing.

4. Both skylights

The two skylights on the roof

The second skylight goes through the same process so no weak spot is left.

5. Waterproofing

The skylight bases covered in white waterproofing

The white coating covers the bases and runs out onto the roof around them, closing the joint with the floor.

6. The result

The sealed skylights

The bases are now continuous and sealed, with no cracks or open joints.
