Varnishing and Maintaining a Wooden Pergola on a Roof Terrace
The wooden pergolas, lattice panels and clad planters on a roof terrace were maintained and varnished, so the wood stands up to sun and rain.

Step by step
1. The pergola

The pergola was already there. Its wooden frame and the closely spaced slats that cut the sun were maintained and given fresh varnish.
2. The dining area

The dining table sits under the pergola. The lattice screens around it were varnished too, so they stand up to the weather.
3. A second pergola

The second pergola, in another corner of the terrace, got the same maintenance.
4. Planters

The planters are clad in the same lattice and were varnished in the same dark tone, so the whole terrace has one consistent look.
5. The lattice up close

The thin battens cross in a tight grid, and the varnish has to reach every one of them. It protects the wood from sun and rain.
6. Screens on the railings

The tall panels behind the railings, which screen the terrace from the neighbouring buildings, take the full weather and need regular varnishing.
7. The walkway

The covered walkway to the door, with its wooden floor and pergola overhead, after the maintenance.
