Roof with Torn Membranes: Stripped, Foam-Insulated and Waterproofed Again
The old membranes had torn and lifted. They were stripped off, the slab was primed, spray polyurethane foam went on, and a white liquid polyurethane membrane was applied on top.

Step by step
1. Torn membranes

The joints of the old membranes had opened and pieces had lifted. Water was getting in underneath the insulation there.
2. Stripping

A membrane that has come unstuck can't be fixed with patches. It has to come off completely.
3. Cleaning and priming

With the membranes gone, the real state of the slab shows. It is cleaned and primed so the foam bonds well.
4. Spray polyurethane foam

Spray polyurethane foam goes over the whole surface and up the parapets. It is one layer with no joints, so there are no seams left to open up.
5. A liquid membrane on top

A white liquid polyurethane membrane (Hyperdesmo) goes over the foam, waterproofing it and protecting it from the sun. It wraps the air-conditioner stands and chimneys, the most vulnerable spots, on every side.
6. The result

One continuous white roof that reflects the sun and has no more places for water to get through.
