Spray Foam Insulation on a Roof with Water Tanks

A bitumen primer, then polyurethane foam on the floor, up the parapets and around the feet of the water tanks.

Spray Foam Insulation on a Roof with Water Tanks

Step by step

1. Primer

A roof coated with black primer

First a bitumen primer goes over the whole roof, so the foam bonds firmly.

2. Under the tanks

Primer under the water heater and between its legs

The primer also goes under the tanks, between their legs.

3. The feet

Foam around the feet of a metal tank

The tank feet are sprayed carefully, because they are awkward spots where leaks open easily.

4. Spraying the parapets

The foam also goes up the parapets, so the insulation rises well up the wall and there is no joint in the corner.

5. The corner

Spraying foam into a corner of the roof

The foam fills the corner between floor and wall and joins the two surfaces into one continuous layer.

6. Around the pipes

Foam around a pipe and a metal tank

Pipes, bases and walls are covered in the same foam, with no gaps in between.

7. Around the rooftop room

The insulation reaches the foot of the rooftop room and the edges of the roof.

8. The result

The whole roof is now covered. The foam insulates and waterproofs in one go, and keeps the home cooler in summer.
