Step by step

1. The starting surface

A bare concrete roof with solar water heaters

The roof was bare concrete, with solar water heaters and a lot of pipework that makes any job harder.

2. The narrow passages

A narrow passage between a wall and the parapet

There are very narrow passages around the rooftop room. They need insulating just as carefully as the open roof.

3. Bitumen primer

The walkway by the railings coated with black primer

First a bitumen primer goes on everywhere, including the foot of the walls.

4. Around the solar heaters

Primer under and around the solar water heaters

The primer reaches under the solar heaters and between the pipes, so no spot is left uncovered.

5. Spraying

Spraying polyurethane foam in a protective suit and mask

Polyurethane foam is sprayed over the whole surface and around the bases. It bonds to the primer and forms one layer with no joints.

6. The solar heater bases

Foam around the bases of the solar heaters

The foam wraps the solar heater bases and pipes, where leaks usually start.

7. The result

The walkway by the railings covered in foam

The roof is now insulated and watertight from end to end, even in the hardest spots.
