Sealing the Edges of a Tiled Terrace

The joint between floor and parapet had opened up under the railings. It was cleaned out and sealed with a white waterproof coating reinforced with fabric.

Step by step

1. An open joint

An open joint with dirt at the foot of the parapet

Where the floor meets the parapet with the railings, the joint had opened and soil and leaves had collected in it.

2. Dirt and rust

Blackened grout and rust at the foot of the railings

Along the parapet the grout had turned black and the railings were rusting at the base.

3. Cleaning

The terrace cleaned before sealing

The terrace is cleaned and the joints are cleared of everything that had collected in them.

4. The materials

Tins of waterproofing, a roll of fabric and tools

White waterproofing, a roll of reinforcing fabric and the tools for the job.

5. Sealing the joint

White waterproofing over the joint between floor and parapet

The joint is covered with white waterproofing reinforced with fabric, taken up onto the low wall as well.

6. Along the parapet

The parapet and railings along the terrace

The work carries on along the whole length of the parapet, under the railings.

7. The result

The terrace with its edges sealed

A clean terrace, with the joints at the parapets closed to water.
