The kerb is the edge of the sidewalk. It separates pedestrians from cars, stops the sidewalk's slabs or concrete from sliding towards the road, and channels rainwater along the street to the drains.

When a sidewalk is redone, the kerb sets the height of the new surface and its slope: water should run towards the road, not towards the wall of the house. If the kerb has broken or tilted, it's usually fixed first.

The kerb belongs to the public space, and in many municipalities changes to it, including its colour, follow set rules. Ask your municipality before touching it.
